Designer Mayyur Girotra and stylist Diya Mehta Jatia aren’t afraid to break the mold — or tradition. Girotra built his reputation on rich, classical Indian silhouettes with clients from New York to Delhi. Mehta, a U.K.-based stylist known for her eye for understated glamour, made headlines this year with her Indian dandy-inspired Met Gala look. And she styled her sister Shloka Mehta for that Ambani wedding.
But after the two joined forces in early 2024, they created something neither had imagined alone — a collection featuring denim, zardozi, bandhani, and more — blending centuries-old craft with streetwear ease.
We sat down with Girotra and Mehta ahead of their first U.S. showing. They spoke about unlikely collaborations, their mothers’ fashion influence, and why Indian couture doesn’t — and shouldn’t — stay confined to wedding season.
We have edited this interview for length and clarity.
