Sima Taparia from Mumbai has taken our screens by storm since the first season of the reality show Indian Matchmaking hit Netflix in 2020, which dropped during the pandemic. The show quickly became one of the most popular series on the platform. Now in its third season, out on April 21, Sima from Mumbai — allegedly one of the city’s best matchmakers — is back.

Over eight episodes, audiences will watch her work with Indians in London, Delhi, New York, and Miami to find them the partner of their dreams. In her typical process, she visits you at your home, has some chai or coffee, meets your parents, asks for your criteria, and then tells you to lower your expectations. She’ll then proceed to present “biodata” — or personal resumes — to your parents first, of course, before dashing your expectations. With Sima Aunty, you must settle and “proceed.”

Since the show, Sima Taparia, around age 60, has been everywhere — from advertisements for crypto platform Solana to other Netflix shows such as The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. When we spoke to Taparia, it was late in Mumbai, and she had just returned from an all-day shoot for a “peppy” song she’s sure everyone will love, out in about 10 to 15 days. We discussed many things — and reader, we assure you, we grilled her — including why she became a matchmaker, why she is tired of this generation’s youth,  and what’s next.
