To mark the start of Black History Month, we revisit the often-overlooked and intertwined histories of Black and South Asian communities. Here are 15 articles from our archives that explore Black and Dalit solidarity, how Black TikTokers celebrate South Asian culture, the history of anti-Blackness, the Black Lives Matter movement, and more.
President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” This year, the month’s theme is “Black Health and Wellness,” focused on the legacy of Black doctors, nurses, midwives, and doulas, as well as mental health in the community.
At The Juggernaut, we’re dedicated to telling untold stories and histories and we’ll continue doing so this month with original reporting.
