More than a dozen shows featuring South Asians — from ‘Ted Lasso’ to ‘Queer Eye’ to ‘Station Eleven’ – earned Emmy nods for excellence in television.

On July 12, the Television Academy — which recognizes excellence in television and emerging media — announced its annual nominations. 

In a year rife with South Asian representation, this year’s nominations included long-time television favorites Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, Queer Eye host Tan France, along with a few fresher faces, including Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed and Station Eleven’s Himesh Patel. 

Notable snubs included Mindy Kaling sitcoms Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls; Sex and the City spinoff And Just Like That, which co-starred Sarita Choudhury; Starstruck, co-starring Nikesh Patel; and Netflix’s Sex Education, featuring Simone Ashley and Rakhee Thakrar.

The 74th Annual Emmy Awards will air on September 12, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
