The British Museum announced on Wednesday that an employee had stolen artifacts — only for others to point out that the British had stolen them first.

On Wednesday, August 16, the British Museum announced that someone had been removing priceless artifacts from their collection, most of which were in storage. The U.K. Metropolitan Police have yet to make an arrest, but some news outlets have pinned former curator Peter Higgs, whom the museum fired earlier this year, as a suspect. The stolen items include “gold jewelry and gems of semi-precious stones and glass dating from the 15th century B.C. to the 19th century,” the British Museum said in a statement.
